More Information

Who’s Eligible?

If you’re 18 years or older, desire to strengthen your spiritual life, have questions about your faith and interested in making a difference in your community, you’re a great candidate for the Walk to Emmaus.

Who’s involved?

Walk to Emmaus weekends are managed by volunteers who have
been Pilgrims on previous Walks and believe in offering the same agape love
that they received to others in our community. Speakers, program leaders,
clergy, even cook team members are all volunteers who also pay their fees to
participate in the weekend.

What’s Involved?

As a Walk Pilgrim, you’ll hear Christian testimonials from
10 lay speakers and five clergy members, all of whom have taken their own
individual Walks to Emmaus. You’ll engage in discussions surrounding the talks
you hear, you’ll have the opportunity to worship, sing, laugh and enjoy
fellowship with your fellow Pilgrims.

What’s the Walk Weekend Schedule?

Your sponsor will bring you to the designated retreat center
before 6 p.m. on Thursday of your Walk Weekend. We recommend that your sponsor
ensure you’ve had supper before you arrive. You’ll spend Friday and Saturday
and most of Sunday in Walk activities. During these three days, team members
will provide nutritious meals and other creature comforts so you can
concentrate on the Walk experience.  The closing ceremony begins at 4 p.m. Your sponsor and family members are welcome to attend the closing. Pilgrims leave the retreat center around 5 p.m.

Who’s my Sponsor?

You may have learned about the Walk to Emmaus from a friend or relative who has benefited from a previous walk.  If so, that fellow Christian will likely offer to sponsor your Walk or assist you in securing a sponsor. If you don’t already have a sponsor, contact the Coastal Bend Walk to Emmaus leadership for more information.

What’s the Cost?

Walk fees are currently $225 for the three days and include all meals, snacks, materials, and lodging in a dormitory setting. The Coastal Bend Emmaus Community scholarship program offers up to half the costs for a few pilgrims each year. Walk scholarships go quickly. For more information on Coastal Bend Emmaus scholarships, see our Scholarship page. Some churches also provide scholarship support for Pilgrims.

Who’s Invited?

The Walk to Emmaus is open to all Christians seeking a
deeper involvement with their faith and a desire to learn more about their
individual role in a Christian community.
